The American Athletic Conference announced in a release Wednesday afternoon it would be pushing back the start date for Fall Olympic Sports to at least September 1.

The delay includes exhibition and non-exhibition competitions for men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball.

“The decision allows member institutions additional time to implement protocols for a safe return to competition for student-athletes, coaches, and staff members,” the statement says.

Other conferences like the ACC and Patriot League have announced similar decisions pushing back Fall Olympic sports to the first week of September.

The statement also mentions that any rescheduling of non-conference contests due to the changes will be determined by the member institutions.

Delaying the start for Fall Olympic sports does not include Football or Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Temple Football has already begun a transition to getting student-athletes back on campus and is set to begin formal training camp in early August.
