Flyers Lose Game Six

The Philadelphia Flyers season came to an end on Sunday afternoon following a 1-0 loss to the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia. The Flyers were trying to force a game seven after once trailing the Capitals three games to zero.

Marcus Johansson had a beautiful pass to Nicklas Backstrom for the games lone goal in the second period. The Flyers’ star player was their goalie Michal Neuvirth, who had 28 saves in defeat.

The Flyers had their chances but could not convert on their three power play opportunities. The turning point of this game was when the Flyers failed to score on a five on three power play. Nicklas Backstrom received a double minor at 4:25 in the second period and then five seconds later Matt Niskanen was called for a hook on Wayne Simmonds.

The Flyers season concludes following their first round exit and the Capitals will play the Pittsburgh Penguins, who beat the New York Rangers in five games.

Flyers Coach Dave Hakstol and players Mark Streit, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds talked to the media following the loss.
