Comedian/Actor Kevin Hart has stepped down as the host of the 91 st Oscars Ceremony
due to the controversy surrounding him over homophobic tweets from nearly a decade ago.

Just three days after officially being announced as the host of the show Hart has come
under fire not just for the tweets, but also his initial refusal to apologize for what he felt that he
already had apologized for. In an Instagram video on Thursday night Hart spoke on the situation
and only seemed to heighten the backlash against him:

“I chose to pass on the apology,” Hart said in the video. “The reason why I passed is because
I’ve addressed this several times. This is not the first time this has come up. I’ve addressed it.
I’ve spoken on it. I’ve said where the rights and wrongs were. I’ve said who I am now versus
who I was then. I’ve done it. I’m not going to continue to go back and tap into the days of old
when I’ve moved on and I’m in a completely different place in my life.”

Less than two hours later, Hart removed himself from the hosting gig and sent out several
tweets apologizing for his actions.

The Oscars will have a hard time replacing Hart with another host of the Oscars, as it is
not seen as an enviable or desirable position to have in the entertainment industry due to the
scrutiny that comes with being the host. According to Variety.com “sources say the organization
has had more trouble than usual finding someone to front their show.”

The December 5 th announcement of Hart as the host was already considered late in the
game and with the ceremony quickly approaching on February 24th, the academy will need to
scramble to find another host.
