Porter Robinson Puts Tower Theater Into a State of Awe (PICTURES)

When entering an 87-year-old historic concert venue such as The Tower Theater in Upper Darby, one would assume that they are attending a show that involved big drums, screamin’ guitars and loud vocals. However, the result was just the opposite. After DJ’ing big room electro house tracks since the age of 16, the Dance Dance Revolution influenced, EDM mastermind known as Porter Robinson decided to completely flip his sound and style all before the age of 22, and return to his roots. With much hype and publicity leading up to his “Worlds” tour, Robinson took a gamble with his followers and made music that came from his heart, mind, and soul without being forced to curve his melodies into a continuous 128 BPM banger.

The result?

Awe.

Standing dead center in the most historic theater in Philadelphia with powerful, intricate, Japanese influenced melodies shooting out of the speakers made the 2 thousand person crowd remain speechless. After self-designing the anime-styled graphics that were displayed on the enormous LED panels on stage, every note of the M83, indie-synth sounding set corresponded to colors, images, and words on the screen. The lack of CDJ’s forced Robinson to sing, play, and cue all parts of his alternative album. With mixing in vocals from early classics such as “Say My Name” over a new escapist track “Fellow Feeling”, Porter kept his devoted fans on their toes. Him and his staff along with Live Nation couldn’t have executed this diverse album in such a perfect way in order to communicate his emphasis on beauty.

“Music is all about beauty.”
