Temple is projected to finish fourth in the East Division and seventh overall in the American Athletic Conference, according to the AAC preseason football media poll released on Tuesday.

UCF, who received 12 first-place votes, will enter the season as the conference favorite for the second straight year. Cincinnati is projected to finish right behind UCF in the East Division while USF is picked to place third.

Only ECU and UConn were selected to finish behind Temple in the East Division.

Temple was picked to finish third in the East Division in 2018 but ended the season in second place with a 7-1 conference record. Due to the loss of keys players to the NFL, a new head coach and Cincinnati’s vast improvement last season, the Owls fell to one spot in the 2019 preseason poll.

This marks the first time Temple was not projected to finish in the top three of the East Division since the conference was divided into two divisions in 2015. The Owls finished

top three in its division in the four seasons since.

Memphis was picked to win the West Division, barely edging out the 2018

division champion Houston by one vote. Memphis received six votes to win the conference while Houston earned four votes.

Temple’s season kicks off on Aug. 31 at 3 PM when the Owls host Bucknell at Lincoln

Financial Field.
