Temple University participated in the Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon at Paley Library on Friday, March 3rd,  for the second time since the event has been going on.

Art+Feminism.org founded the Edit-a-Thon in 2014 after it was reported that less than 10 percent of Wikipedia contributors are women. Since the first Edit-a-Thon, the event has grown internationally. People participate by correcting and adding information to female artists’ Wikipedia pages throughout the month March: Women’s History Month.

Temple University librarian Jill Luedke helped coordinate the event. Luedke commented on the event’s turnout.

“We have about 16 people, including one person who was remote via WebEx,” Luedke said. That’s pretty comparable to last year’s numbers.”

Dr. Amy Friedman, an associate professor at Temple, was one of the participants. Friedman got involved with Edit-A-Thon because she believes in accurate representation.

“Wikipedia is one of the foremost sources of information…and education for a lot of people, and it should represent our world,” Friedman said.

For additional information, Art+Feminisim.org offers plans for future events. The Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon events continue throughout the entirety of Women’s History Month.
