This past Thursday night the Video Game Awards aired. For those who are unaware, the VGAs are the gaming industries Oscars except it’s always hosted by Geoff Keighley, a video game journalist.

Rockstar’s November hit, Red Dead Redemption 2 took four awards home last night except the coveted Game of the Year, those bragging rights belong to another studio. However you have to admit winning the awards for best music, narrative and best audio design is still a pretty big deal. As well as Roger Clark winning the best performance award for his role as the game’s protagonist, Arthur Morgan.

The game of the year however fell to Sony Santa Monica’s God of War. It edged out Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Celeste, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for the win. It also won the race for best direction and best action adventure.

Throughout the night, there were several people recognized for their work in the community. One such was the popular Fortnite streamer (yes Fortnite won two awards – one for multiplayer and the other was ongoing) Ninja. Ninja not only got a chance to present and award alongside a muppet but also won the award for most popular content creator.

Another person was SonicFox of EchoFox E-sports team. He won the award for the best E-sports player. As 4 time champion in Injustice: Gods Among US, champion in Mortal Kombat and DragonBall FighterZ, it’s greatly deserved.

The awards also announced few new games. It’s not uncommon for games to be announced at the VGAs but most of the time it’s saved for bigger events if you are a bigger company. The reveals from last night that got the most buzz are: Joker from Persona 5 will be in DLC for Smash Brothers Ultimate which is out now by the way, Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3 coming back after a 10 wait since the second game, and Mortal Kombat 11 is slated for a 2019 release. Check them out.
