Philadelphia artist Perry Shall finds himself on the verge of a Grammy for his exceptional album illustrations- a tool so important in capturing audience attention for musicians. While the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” holds universal sway, Shall has mastered the art of defying it.

The Grammy nomination, specifically in the Best Recording Package category, stands as a testament to Shall’s art, all thanks to his contribution to the album Electrophonic Chronic by the Arcs, a collective spearheaded by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. This album, paying tribute to the late Richard Swift, has garnered widespread acclaim, courtesy of Shall’s psychedelic visual interpretation.

Shall’s background includes an education at George Washington High, moving on to the Community College of Philadelphia and the Art Institute of Philadelphia before ultimately dropping out. Shall’s departure was fueled by a discontent with the institutionalized approach that dampened his artistic individuality and spirit. Shall’s heart of rebellion is proof that only we know best for ourselves.

Shifting gears to construction, Shall maintained his rebellious spirit as he delved into the creation of punk rock fliers, sparking his love for music illustration.

As we anticipate Shall’s potential Grammy and to support one of Philly’s own, check out some of his best album designs below!
