Satellite Citi plants the seeds for new melodic hard rock with “Trouble Flower.” The gritty guitars mix with the melody-defining vocals from Anna Gevorkian to create a powerful hook. Aside from fronting the band, Gevorkian is impressively also the drummer. Lyrically, “Trouble Flower” blooms with poetry, and covers difficulties with mental health and internalizing them with references to rain (like the downpour where the music video is set). Satellite Citi packs a punch and there’s more hard-hitters to come with their sound. – Caitlin McGeehan

As presumably part of the other side of the story of Waterparks’ April 2023 album Intellectual Property, “SNEAKING OUT OF HEAVEN” is a catchy kickoff. It has what the trio is known for: pulling glimmering sound effects and uniquely catchy vocals that run into a foundation of pop-rock guitar. It falls into the signature category of Waterparks’ songs that chronicle the infatuation-turned-honeymoon phase of a relationship.

Although I don’t think the lyrics are as hard-hitting as past Waterparks songs in this category, its layers of production and the catchiness make up for it for me. – Caitlin McGeehan

The duo poptropicaslutz! combine the best parts of 2020s hyperpop, early 2000s, and 2010s pop-punk (see the sentence-long song titles), plus some Cobra Starship sprinkled in, too. You can’t ask for anything more in an album that feels like an espresso shot of energy flowing into your ears. Some highlight tracks are “A Flair For Conclusions, Yet She’ll Never Be Swan Queen,” “Strawberry Sorbet,” and “What Would You Do To Get Ahead(line)?” – Caitlin McGeehan
